Utkal Alumina signs MoU with Entrepreneurship Development Initiative of India

Launches Rural Business Incubation Centre – “UDYAMEE”

Bhubaneswar/Tikiri: Utkal Alumina International limited, a unit of Hindalco Industries limited and Entrepreneurship Development Initiative of India (EDII), signed an MoU on 16 June 2021, to set up a Rural Business Incubation Centre – UDYAMEEE – in – Kashipur block of Rayagada.  

The MoU was signed by Mr. Mazhar Beig, Unit Head, Utkal Alumina and  Dr. Raman Gujral, Director Corporate Projects , EDII in the presence of senior delegates Mr. Bipul Chatterjee, Head – CSR, Hindalco Industries, Dr. Sunil Sukla, Director General,  EDII,  along with dignitaries from Utkal and EDII.

Over the next three years, Project UDYAMEE will nurture 300 entrepreneurs from Kashipur block of Rayagada and Thuamul Rampur block of Kalahandi Odisha in non-farm and agri-allied sectors partnering with EDII, a National Resource Institute for Entrepreneurship Education, Research, Training & Institution Building, Identification of aspiring youths, mapping of their skill sets and providing business solutions are some of the key components of this project. The Project will converge various government run schemes and programs related to entrepreneurship development and seed an entrepreneurial ecosystem in this region. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Beig urged EDII and the entire team of Utkal to develop a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in the periphery of Utkal Alumina which will not only promote self-entrepreneurship among youths but would also help achieve the sustainable development goals of UN 2030 – SDG 1, SGD 2 and SDG 17.

Dr. Raman Gujral affirmed that UDYAMEE would be a model initiative for the state and the nation in promoting self-entrepreneurship among unemployed youths.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Hindalco’s Utkal Alumina is striving to make a difference to the lives of 30,000 people in 57 villages of Kashipur block of Rayagada and Thuamul Rampur block of Kalahandi Odisha in the areas of education, healthcare, sustainable livelihood, rural infrastructure and social welfare.
