Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice) : The state government’s flagship Mo College Abhijan aims to enhance the education standard and atmosphere at higher education institutions in Odisha to churn out top notch students who would contribute towards betterment of the society.
Under the programme, Rs 10 Lakh was contributed by Swetapadma Dash in the memory of her mother Late Smt. Manorama Mohapatra for the construction of Manorama Memorial hall at Ravenshaw University. Similarly Rs 7 Lakh has been contributed for the construction of Smart Class room at Physics department of Physics at Ravenshaw University by Prabhati Misra, Dr. Pranati Mishra, Ranjan Mishra and Plasmon Mishra in the memory of their late father and renowned senior scientist, Prof. Patitapaban Mishra.
“Mo College Abhijan is envisioned as a platform for the alumni to reconnect with their Alma Mater and give back to the society. Alumni contributions can be made in the form of cash, kind, time and any other way for the benefit of institutions and students. Many eminent alumni are getting connected to their college and university everyday to offer their service under Mo College Abhijan”, informs Akash Dasnayak, Chairperson Mo College Abhijan.
The state government through the Mo College Abhijan provides a matching grant twice the amount of donation received by the beneficiary institutions upon receiving proposals and thorough evaluation of the same.
Manorama Mohapatra had won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1984, Soviet Nehru Award in 1988, Critic Circle of India Award in 1990, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman in 1991 and Rupambara Award in 1994. As an author she had played a pivotal role in creating awareness on social issues.
It may be noted that Late Smt. Manorama Mohapatra was a renowned public speaker, columnist and former editor of Odia newspaper ‘The Samaja’ besides being the face of women empowerment in Odisha. She was also awarded with prestigious Ravenshaw Gaurav awards both by Ravenshaw Collegiate School and University.
Prof. Patitapaban Mishra was born in the year 1932 at Raichakradhar Pur, village of Sakhigopal, of Puri district . He was a senior scientist and Prof in Physics department at Ravenshaw University. He was awarded Ph.D Degree in Physics in the year1970 from Utkal University working under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Prof. Trilochan Pradhan on the Topic “Theoretical Studies on Wave Propagation in Plasma Physics”.
He had a long span of professional career as a Lecturer from 1956-1970, Reader from 1970-1982, Professor at Ravenshaw College from 1982-1988 and Principal of Khalikote College, Berhampur from 1988-1990. Prof Mishra always wanted students to learn physics and his love for Ravenshaw University was well known.
