Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice): Former minister, a popular leader, and BJD MLA from Pipili Pradeep Maharathi is no more. He has left for heavenly abode yesterday night at the age of 65 .

He was under treatment in Sum Ultimate with life support. His condition was serious. Chief Minister Navin Pattanaik yesterday spoke to the family members and doctors of SUM Ultimate Medicare and extended his best wishes and prayers for Shri. Maharathy’s speedy recovery. He had requested the doctors that the best treatment possible should be ensured for the speedy recovery of Shri. Maharathy. But in spite of all the effort and best wishes, Sri Maharathy breathed his last.

Pradeep Maharathy was a popular name in the state politics . He was well-known as an outspoken, determined politician. Maharathy started his political career as a student leader of Puri Samanta Chandra Shekhar College (SCS). He was subsequently elected to the Legislative Assembly from Pipli in 1985. He was a member of the Janata Party at that time. After being elected as MLA on Janata Dal ticket in 1985 and 1990, he lost to Congress candidate Yudhishthira Samantaray in 1995. But from 2000 till date he remained undefeated and won consecutively in 2000, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019. Pradeep Maharathi was born on 7 July 1955 and died last night. The Maharathi also served as Minister of Agriculture and Panchayati Raj several times in Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet

Chief Minister Sri Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief at the passing away of veteran leader, former minister and MLA Pipili Pradeep Maharathy. The Chief Minister has described Late Maharathy as a stalwart of BIju Janata Dal and a long time associate of Biju babu Known for his exceptional organisation capacity. He had won from Pipili consecutively for 7th time. He was a true leader of people. Chief Minister conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the people of Pipili.

The mortal remains of late Pradeep Maharathy will be cremated with full state honours.
