Dalmia Cement Hosts the Annual Environment Cum Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP)2023-24 in Rajgangpur

Aims at building awareness among students on environmental conservation for a sustainable future

Bhubaneshwar, November 20, 2023: Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited (DCBL) is a leading Indian cement major and a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL) in association with the Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT), Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Department of Steel & Mines, Govt of Odisha hosted the annual Environment-Cum-Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) at Dalmia Vidya Mandir School, Rajgangpur. The programme aims to promote sustainable mineral development activities and awareness building for environmental conservation among students and the communities in mining areas in the state. A total of 38 students from 19 schools from Biramitrapur-Lanjiberna-Gomordihi-Rajgangpur region participated in the programme. Shri Chetan Srivastav, Executive Director, DCBL graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Shri Rajan Kumar Sahoo, Mining Officer, Rourkela Mining Circle was the Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Sri Guru Charan Das, Former Director, Geological Survey of India, Senior Executive Council Member, SGAT, Sri Sujit Kumar Mohanty, Former Manager-Geology, Vedanta Ltd and Vice President, SGAT, Shri Omprakash Ramraoji Khelkar, Mines Head, DCBL, Dr. Udayanath Sahoo, Asst. General Manager-Geology, DCBL, Shri Jaydeb Kar, Principal, DVM Rajgangpur along with other key dignitaries.

The programme involved visit to local mining sites and the mineral industry, where students learnt to identify different specimens of plants, rocks, ores and minerals, followed by essay writing and quiz competition to reinforce the awareness among students. Based on the overall performance in essay writing, identification of specimens and quiz, Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre, Rajgangpur, secured the first position, Dalmia Vidya Mandir, Rajgangpur secured second positionand Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre, Biramitrapur secured the third position. All participants received participation prizes and certificates.

Commenting on the initiative, Shri Chetan Srivastava, Executive Director, DCBL and Unit Head, Rajgangpur said, “At Dalmia Cement environmental conservation and climate action is at the core of our operations. The adoption of sustainable practices is the cornerstone of a thriving future. Through such endeavors, we aim to inspire the next generation and cultivate awareness among the young minds towards safeguarding our environment and natural resources. We are grateful to SGAT and the Dept. of Steel & Mines, Govt. of Odisha for the opportunity to support and collaborate for such a significant programme. With collective effort, we can create a greener future for generations to come.”

Since 1990, SGAT has annually organized the Environment-Cum-Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP) for high school students in Odisha’s mining areas advocating best environmental practices and to motivate the community to safeguard the environment.
