Bhubaneswar : Minister, Revenue & Disaster Management Sri Suresh Pujari reviewed today (10.09.2024) on response activities taken in view of deep depression over Bay of Bengal in presence of Special Relief Commissioner and other senior officers. Minister, Revenue & Disaster Management briefed the press after the review meeting.
As per the Weather Status issued by IMD, the depression over interior Odisha moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 22 kmph during past 6 hours, lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today, the 10th September, 2024 over North Chhattisgarh & adjoining interior Odisha near latitude 21.7°N and longitude 83.3°E, about 90 km west-southwest of Jharsuguda (Odisha), 70 km west-northwest of Sambalpur (Odisha), 120 km east-southeast of Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) and 170 km east-northeast of Raipur (Chhattisgarh).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Chhattisgarh and weaken into a well marked low pressure area over Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh around evening of 10th September.

Response to Deep Depression
- 30 ODRAF teams deployed in 12 districts and BMC
- 7 Fire Service teams deployed in Malkangiri
- 80 rescue boats deployed
- NDRF Teams deployed in Puri, Nayagarh , Ganjam and Cuttack district
- 2 NDRF Teams kept in standby in the Battalion headquarter
- BSF Mobilized to be pressed into service in case of large scale evacuation
- MHA moved to place helicopter for emergency Operations
- 14 medical team and 5 Vet teams deployed in Makangiri
- 14 relief camps opened in Malkangiri
- 500 polythene packets sent to Malkangiri
- 1500 More packets are being sent today
- Koraput and Malkangiri district have been communicated for arrangement of free kitchen for the affected people due to flood like situation. It has also been requested to take measures like –
- District Emergency Operation Centre and Control Rooms of other offices must operate as per the recent guidelines issued with required manpower, communication equipment like phone, e-mail facility etc. must be in working condition.
- Identifying all vulnerable people and shifting them to safe shelters is the 1st priority. For that purpose, all people living in kutcha houses/hut or living or in low lying areas may be identified and if required be evacuated and placed in safe shelters.
- Cooked food through free kitchen, safe drinking water, lighting, health & sanitation facilities must be arranged for evacuated people housed in shelters.
De-watering:
- For Bhubaneswar 30 additional pumps, for Cuttack 10 additional pumps and for Puri 10 additional pumps are kept in readiness
Senior Officers deployment:
- Shri Sundhansu Sarangi, DG, Fire Services & Home Guards, Shri Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary to Govt., SSEPD and Shri Charan Meena, DIG Southern Division have been deputed to Malkangiri to supervise and assist district administration in disaster management.
