SOA NSS VOLUNTEERS CLEAN VILLAGE AS PART OF ‘SWACHHATA HI SEVA’ INITIATIVE

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24: One hundred thirty NSS volunteers of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) here successfully took up several projects under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’, a nationwide cleanliness program, initiated by the central government, at Jamujhari village on the outskirts of the capital city on September 21.

          The volunteers cleaned up the village, located under Chhatabara gram panchayat in Khurda district, the community pond and premises of the temple besides conducting an awareness campaign for educating the school children.

          They cleaned various areas of the village including roads and removed waste and pollutants from the local pond improving the water quality. They also cleaned the temple premises.

          The volunteers also conducted door-to-door visit in the village to impress upon the inhabitants about the need for cleanliness and hygiene to prevent outbreak of diseases. Leaflets were also distributed among the villagers.

          The program, initiated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, included an awareness campaign held at the local school where the students stressed on children the importance of cleanliness, waste management and environmental protection. They also performed ‘Nukkad Natak’ (Street Play) highlighting the issues. It was attended by a large crowd to whom the message of ‘Swachh Bharat’ was communicated.

          Dr. Shyamalendu Tripathi, Dr. Kanaklata Ojha, Dr. Rakesh Roshan Satpathy and Mr. Kumar Sambhav Giri, all Programme Officers of SOA NSS unit, were present along with the volunteers.
