Bhubaneswar (Kalinga Voice) : Safer Internet Day (SID) is observed every year to promote the safe and responsible use of technology and the internet. In 2025, this globally recognized day was on Tuesday, February 11, and carried the theme: “Together for a better internet.”
Celebrated in over 150 countries, Safer Internet Day highlights the importance of creating a secure and inclusive digital environment for everyone, especially children and young adults. From raising awareness about online safety to empowering individuals to report online abuse, SID aims to educate and inspire. Organizations, schools, and communities host numerous events to promote cyber safety, making this day a call to action for fostering an internet that is beneficial, positive, and secure for all.
On this occasion workshops were organized by National Informatics Centre, Odisha, Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India, at Shri Sathya Sai Women’s College and BJB Junior College at Bhubaneswar today.
National Informatics Centre (NIC), Odisha conducted the first workshop with collaborationof Shri Sathya Sai Women’s College, Bhubaneswar in which more than 250 studentsand faculty members participated and discussed about online financial frauds, ransom ware, cyber terrorism, child pornography/sexual abuse, digital arrests, identity theft, etc.
Dr. Debjani Singh, Principal in her welcome address elaborated the purpose of the event. The Chief Guest Prof. Sunil Kumar Rath, former President, Managing Committee of the College emphasized on the safe and secure use of mobile phones and internet. Dr. Ashok Kumar Hota, Deputy Director General (DDG) and State Informatics Officer, NIC, Odisha emphasized on the importance of cyber hygiene and advised the audience to be vigilant while using the mobile phones and internet. The senior scientists from Odisha NICSmt. Sujata Das and Shri Niladri Bihari Mohanty demonstrated various aspects of cyber-crimes and various dos and don’ts.
Another workshop was conducted at BJB Junior College, Bhubaneswar under the guidance of Shri Ranjan Kumar Bal, Principal in which about 200 students and faculty members participated enthusiastically. Shri Jayanta Kumar Mishra, Senior Scientist from NIC, Odisha elaborated the importance of safer internet and secured digital world with many live examples. Shri Gyana Ranjan Misra and Smt. Sanjukta Pradhan, Scientists from NIC discussed about different types cyber-crimes and the ways to secure oneself from any such situations. The event was well appreciated and the Principal Shri Bal thanked everyone to make it a success.
