- Caring for the community through employee volunteerism
Bhubaneswar, March 14, 2025:In a bidto spread smiles among those who are bereft of a family andare the most needyof a shoulder to lean on, of an ear to listen to their agonies, and of a heart to share their feelings, employees of Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), had visited an old-age home – Sneha Mandira Bruddhashram -in the State capital and spent some quality time with the inmates.
As part of their volunteerism initiative, the employees provided ration supplies, fruits and toiletries to the elderly residents of the old-age home. They interacted with the inmates and offered them comfort and companionship by listeningto their stories and interests. Interestingly, the visit coincided with Holi and the employees never forgot to exchange colours with the elderly citizens. The smiles on the faces of the inmates were quite evident as they got the opportunity to splash colours.

Expressing his feelings on the noble cause,Pankaj Satija, Executive-In-Charge, FAMD, said,“Population of elderly people in India will be more than 20% by 2050 and when we are working on VIKSIT Bharat, contributions of these elderly people cannot be ignored. Individuals as well institutions can always contribute for their well-being and these small acts and meaningful connections will surely make big impact in our society”.
This volunteering activity is part of the company’s wider efforts to foster a culture of giving back to the community andunderscores its dedication to positively impacting society through collaborative efforts between the organization and its employees.
The donation by the company’s employees included essential items such as rice, lentils, oil, sugar, toiletries, and a variety of fruits, ensuring that the senior citizens have access to nutritious food and hygiene products.
