Bhubaneswar, 29/04/2025: The incident of rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl in Khalingi village of Sanakhemundiblock of Ganjam district and her body found in an under-construction Anganwadi center has shocked the people of the state. After the BJP government came to power in Odisha, incidents of child abduction, torture, sexual harassment and murder have increased exponentially, and the inability of the police administration to control it has become a cause of concern for the people of the state, a representative of the Biju Janata Dal alleged while visiting the Khalingi village.
Former Minister Smt. SnehanginiChhuria, who led the delegation, said that this little girl from Mahanala village in Ganjam district had gone to her maternal uncle’s house in Khalingi to join a week-long pilgrimage with her parents. On Friday, when the girl was playing with other children near her maternal uncle’s house, a miscreant from Khalingi village kidnapped the tender-hearted four-year-old girl and brutally murdered her after raping her. On Saturday morning, the villagers found the girl’s body from an under-construction Anganwadi. This issue has created a political storm in the district. Due to the incompetence of the police, the criminals no longer fear the law. Such a sensitive and shameful incident has shocked the people of the district and the state. After the BJP came to power, heartbreaking incidents like minor girls getting pregnant and tender babies being raped have been happening. The police station is today run under the pressure of the BJP party. If the government is in deep slumber, who will wake it up, asked Smt. Chhuria. Due to the deterioration of law and order in Ganjam district, 15 murders, 28 attempted murders and 35 thefts from temples have occurred in the last one month. The Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, who is in charge of the Home Department, should take strict action in this regard for such a sensitive situation in the district.
The delegation, which went on the instructions of BJD President Shri Naveen Patnaik, including former MLA Ramesh Chandra Chayaupattanayak, Mrs.LopamudraBuxipatra, former MP Mrs. Rajshree Mallick, Sanghamitra Dalai, Mrs. RanjitaSahu, SulakhanaGitanjali Devi, among others, went to Khalingi village of Digpahandi block of Ganjam district and expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased child.
