  • Inordinate delays of file movement at the Minister, Department Secretary, and Director levels.
  • Cancel celebration of ‘so called success’ after failure becomes evident.
  • Spend public money on public welfare, not on festivities.

Bhubaneswar, 04/06/2025:Citing a note sheet signed by Chief Minister Shri Mohan Majhi, which exposes governance failures, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today strongly criticized the BJP government. Referring to the government’s plan to celebrate one year in power with statewide events, the BJD rejected the proposal and demanded that such celebrations be scrapped. The money intended for these events should instead be spent on public welfare, BJD suggested.

At a press conference held at Shankha Bhavan, party spokesperson and media coordinator Dr. Lenin Mohanty remarked that the election results were declared exactly a year ago today. So, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the BJP has now completed one year in power today. He added that over the past year, the BJP government has faced several failures across various sectors, and the note sheet signed by the Chief Minister is essentially an acceptance of those failures.

According to the note sheet, many official files have been remaining pending for long periods, which has been causing inordinate delays in the utilization of budgeted funds, ultimately impacting the government’s performance. It specifically notes that the delays are occurring at the levels of Ministers, Departmental Secretaries, and Directors.

Dr. Mohanty further said that as a responsible opposition party, the BJD has been consistently raising concerns about these failures of state government. Now, even while preparing to celebrate its so-called “successes”, the BJP government itself has acknowledged its shortcomings in the note signed by the Chief Minister. He questioned what “success” the state government is celebrating when its own internal communications reflect failure and inefficiency.

He asserted that this statewide celebration is just a propaganda exercise. The BJP, he said, came to power by making false promises and baseless accusations against the previous government. Now, to cover up its failures, it is spending crores of public money from the state exchequer on a hollow celebration.

The BJD demanded that the government immediately cancel the decision to hold these celebrations and instead spend that money in genuine development and public service. Dr. Mohanty strongly condemned what he called an attempt to mislead the people of Odisha using their hard-earned money for the government’s own publicity.
