JSW Steel Odisha Launches Major Sapling Distribution Drive in Mining Regions

Barbil: In a major stride toward environmental restoration, JSW Steel, Odisha has kicked off a wide-reaching sapling distribution campaign across its mining areas. The Environment, Safety & Forest department spearheaded the initiative, distributing approximately 700 fruit-bearing saplings to local villagers surrounding its three key mining sites: Nuagaon, Ganua, and Narayanposhi.
At Nuagaon around 250 saplings were handed out, including varieties such as Guava, Jackfruit, Mango, Amla, Tangerine, Bael, Lemon, Sapota, and Jamun. A similar distribution was conducted at Ganua Sevashram School, encouraging community-based plantation and participation.
In the Narayanposhi mining area, located in Sundergarh district, 190 saplings were provided to residents of the surrounding villages to bolster green cover and environmental resilience.
Adding weight to the initiative, Mines Managers including Arundeep Bhattacharjee (Nuagaon Mines), Tapan Rath (Narayanposhi Mines), and Atmaranjan Pradhan (Ganua Mine) and teams were present during the sapling distribution drives, reinforcing the company’s commitment to green development.
JSW Steel officials reaffirmed their focus on reforestation around mining leases and emphasized that community participation is key to the long-term success of such sustainability efforts.
