Jharsuguda: In a unique form of protest against the irregular arrival of garbage collection vehicles, a resident of Ward No. 11 on Friday walked into the Jharsuguda Municipality office carrying a bag full of household waste, demanding immediate restoration of the collection service. He later dumped the garbage into the dustbin of Jharsuguda Municipality.
The resident, identified as Debananda Barik, expressed frustration over the frequent absence of the garbage collection vehicles in his area. “We have been paying Rs. 45 per household every month for the collection service, yet the vehicles have stopped coming. When we asked, officials claimed that the vehicles had broken down. But why should residents suffer because of that? It’s causing serious inconvenience,” Barik said.
He further demanded that the municipal authorities ensure regular collection from every household as before. “If the vehicles are not going to come, then the municipality should at least tell us where to dump our garbage,” he added.
In this context, Jharsuguda Municipality Executive Officer Manas Ranjan Mallick said, “Today council meeting was going on, and I have learnt that someone had come to the municipality. Presently, the Garbage collection vehicles are in shortage and the same has been discussed in the council meeting. We have decided to solve this issue by procuring the vehicles or hiring them, and the file is in the process stage.”
