CII Odisha Mining Conclave 2025 Charts Roadmap for ‘Viksit Odisha @2036’

Jharsuguda, 17 October 2025: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in collaboration with the Government of Odisha, successfully organized the CII Odisha Mining Conclave 2025 — a two-day conference and exhibition held at Jharsuguda. The event brought together over 250 distinguished leaders from industry, government, academia, and allied sectors to deliberate on the future of mining and industrial growth in the state.

At the Special Plenary, Hon’ble Minister Shri Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted that Odisha is rapidly transforming from a mineral-rich state into a global industrial destination. Since 2024, the state has approved ₹8 lakh crore in new investments, generating over 2.5 lakh jobs. In the last quarter alone, projects worth ₹5,770 crore across 50 sectors were launched, with ₹7,400+ crore investments grounded, including solar projects at Gopalpur. Additionally, ₹5,380 crore worth of projects across 27 industries have commenced operations. The Minister also announced plans for three new industrial parks in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and beyond, focusing on emerging sectors like electronics, semiconductors, and BPM, reaffirming the State’s commitment to a sustainable and employment-rich future by 2047.

Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, Hon’ble MLA, Jharsuguda, urged industries to mentor local MSMEs and young entrepreneurs, emphasizing skill development and technological collaboration. He noted that developing slurry pipelines from mines to ports would be a game changer for logistics efficiency and cost reduction, strengthening Odisha’s economic transformation.

Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industries, Government of Odisha, underscored Odisha’s leadership in India’s industrial growth, driven by its mineral and metal advantage and ₹1.4 lakh crore of new investments in Q1 2025. He emphasized the state’s focus on value addition, downstream cluster development, and green, tech-driven mining, supported by transparent policies, long-term ore linkages, and robust infrastructure, positioning Odisha as the Growth Engine of India’s next 25 years.

Mr. G. Suresha, Vice Chairman, CII Odisha State Council, lauded the State’s industrial progress and reiterated CII’s commitment to strengthening Jharsuguda’s industrial base.

Dr. Pradipta Mohanty, Past Chairman, CII Odisha State Council, set the tone for the plenary by emphasizing sustainability and innovation as key to Odisha’s mineral development, calling for stronger research, downstream linkages, and skill ecosystems.

Mr. C. Chandru, COO, Vedanta Aluminium Limited, highlighted Odisha’s role as the nucleus of India’s mineral economy, praising the State’s transparent governance and industry collaboration that have made it a global benchmark for responsible mining.

Mr. Bibhu Mishra, Advisor, Hindalco Industries, shared that the Government of Odisha’s support has been pivotal in enabling industry-led growth and environmental stewardship.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Mr. Prabodh Mohanty, Member, CII Odisha State Council, noted that the deliberations reaffirmed Odisha’s role as India’s mining powerhouse and the collective commitment to building a sustainable, technology-driven, and inclusive mining ecosystem.

The conclave concluded with a shared resolve among stakeholders to advance ‘Viksit Odisha @2036’ — envisioning an Odisha that leads the world in sustainable mining, industrial innovation, and equitable growth.
