Bhubaneswar, 30 Oct : With successful roll out of free dialysis services throughout the State, Government have initiated steps for situational analysis, management, control and prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Odisha. For the purpose, a brain storming session was held today under the Chairmanship of Secretary Health and Family Welfare Aswathy S. in the conference hall of combined Health Directorate. The experts, senior specialists, researchers from different institutions and departments deliberated on the issue. The findings of different global, national and state level research studies were presented and analysed by the experts.
Deliberations in the session showed a rising trend of CKD in different parts of India. Odisha also witnessed a rising trend of CKD patients in some areas of different districts. These patients are getting free dialysis treatment in around 70 dialysis centres across the state. Presently, around more than 18800 patients are under active dialysis in Government facilities. Besides, many patients are also getting cashless dialysis and treatment under ABPMJAY-GJAY in private hospitals.
The technical committee deliberated on different types of CKD related to diabetes, hypertension, wrong life style, genetic factors and other unknown causes. It was decided that detailed studies would be conducted on nature and causes of CDK in Odisha. Secretary Aswathy S. advised to involve the interested and willing researchers from different medical colleges, OUAT, RMRC, ICMR, SIHFW etc. It was also decided to prepare a CKD registry for Odisha with available data from different sources which would serve the baseline for further research studies and analysis. All these would be integrated with a web-based portal to be worked out by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Simple and clear-cut messages on prevention and early detection of kidney disease would be developed by the technical committee for dissemination among people. The committee would also work out the strategies for screening and early diagnosis of kidney diseases. Further, it would help in secondary analysis of data, assessment of block wise disease burden, and modelling of uniform protocol for investigation of reported CKD clusters.
