Odisha Media Delegation Visits NIEPID, Secunderabad

Bhubaneswar, March 26: Members of an Odisha media delegation visited the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), Secunderabad to gain insights into the initiatives and services being undertaken for persons with intellectual disabilities.
During the visit, the delegation was oriented through a series of informative sessions highlighting the objectives of the institute, key legislations and policies related to disability welfare, as well as various programmes focused on prevention and early intervention. Officials provided a comprehensive overview of the institute’s role in capacity building, rehabilitation, and research at the national level.

The journalists were also introduced to the E-Sanidhya platform, a digital initiative aimed at extending support services and improving accessibility for persons with disabilities and their families. The session offered valuable insights into how technology is being leveraged to enhance outreach and service delivery.
The programme included an exclusive tour of various departments, where the delegation observed ongoing activities, therapeutic interventions, and training programmes designed to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Major (Dr.) B.V. Ram Kumar, Director of NIEPID, who delivered a detailed briefing on the current scenario, recent advancements in research, and their impact across the country.
Members of the delegation expressed that the visit was highly inspiring and enriching, offering them a deeper appreciation of the dedicated efforts being made towards empowerment, inclusion, and dignity of persons with intellectual disabilities.
