AM/NS India hosts 27thMines Environment &Mineral Conservation Week

Bhubaneswar, March 29, 2026:ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) successfullyhosted the Final Day Celebration and Award Distribution Ceremony of the 27thMines Environment & Mineral Conservation (ME&MC) Week 2025–26 in Bhubaneswar on March 28, 2026. The programme was organised under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Bhubaneswar Region, with the theme “Digital Mining: Transforming Today, Sustaining Tomorrow.”

Ghoraburhani Sagasahi Mine of AM/NS India bagged four awards including first prize in mineral conservation, first prize in overall performance, second prize in afforestation and third prize in systematic & scientific development. Thakurani Mineof AM/NS India secured third prize in publicity &propaganda.The awards were based on a detailed evaluation by a team from IBM. More than 87 mining companies from Odisha, including leading mining companies like TATA Steel, NALCO, JSW, and OMC participated in the assessment.

Shri Pankaj Kulshrestha, Controller General, IBM, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Dr. Pukhraj Nenival, Controller of Mines, (East Zone), IBM as the Guest of Honour, along with Shri Arun Kumar, 27th ME&MC Week Convenor and Regional Controller of Mines, IBM, Bhubaneswar Region, Shri Sanjib Kumar Mohapatra, Regional Mining Geologist, IBM, Bhubaneswar Region, Shri Amit Kumar Dubey, Chairman, 27thME&MC Week 2025-26 and Sr. General Manager –  Mines Operations, AM/NS India, Shri Prasanna Kumar Panda, Co-Chairman, 27th ME&MC week 2025-26and Business Head, JSW, Shri Indrakant Saha, Mines Manager, Thakurani Mine, AM/NS India, Shri Satyakam Das, Mines Manager,Sagasahi Mine, AM/NS India and Shri Purna Chandra Behera, Head- Mine Planning, AM/NS India.The programme was presided over by Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, Director – Mining & Strategic Projects, AM/NS India.The event witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries from the mining sector, industry leaders, and stakeholders.

The proceedings commenced with flag hoisting and the ME&MC oath. At the inaugural function, Shri Amit Kumar Dubey, whilewelcoming the guests, shared his views on the critical need for digital transformation in the mining industry. The 27thME&MC souvenir and calendar were unveiled followed by a comprehensive report on the week’s activities, delivered by Shri Arun Kumar. Subsequently, senior officials of IBM addressed the gathering, offering insightful perspectives that highlighted the significance of environmental stewardship and mineral conservation.

On the occasion, Shri Alok Kumar Mehta, said, “The future of mining lies in embracing digital technologies while maintaining the highest standards of environmental responsibility. At AM/NS India, we are committed to driving innovation that supports sustainable growth.”

Shri Pankaj Kulshresthahighlighted that the integration of innovation with sustainability is essential to ensure resource efficiency, environmental protection, and long‑term growth of the sector. He commended the collective efforts of participating companies and urged the industry to remain steadfast in its commitment to responsible mining practices.

The event featured an exhibition showcasing innovative mining practices, highlighting the industry’s shift towards technology-driven operations.The programme also featured cultural performances and prize distribution, recognising excellence in mining operations, environmental management, and mineral conservation practices. The ME&MC flag was handed over to JSW representativesas hosts for the next edition. By hosting the event, AM/NS India reaffirmed its role as a responsible mining company, committed to advancing sustainable practices and driving innovation for the long‑term benefit of the industry and society.
