Jharsuguda, May 15: For the first time, a grand day-night cricket tournament titled the “Jharsuguda Premier League (JPL)” is set to be organised in Jharsuguda. A press conference regarding the event was held at a local hotel on Friday by the organisers of the league.
Among those present at the press meet were Rishav Singh, Yasin Qureshi, Pushkar Raj, Pratik Yadav and Chandra Kiran.
A total of eight teams will participate in the tournament, with each squad comprising 15 players. While all players must belong to Jharsuguda district, each team has been permitted to include a maximum of three players from outside the district.
The opening match as well as the final match will be played under lights, with the final scheduled for May 24. All other matches will be conducted in a day-night format. Matches are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM daily.
The organisers stated that the primary objective of the league is to identify and promote hidden cricketing talent from the district. In a major attraction, players were auctioned in a format similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL), with nearly 200 cricketers participating in the auction process.
Santosh Yadav emerged as the costliest player in the auction and secured a place in the Aryan DC team.
The organisers further informed that the tournament is being conducted by following IPL-style rules and management systems to provide players with a professional competitive platform.
