Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s leading English news portal www.prameyanews.com on Saturday celebrated its first anniversary with senior journalists expressing the view that digitalisation was poised to transform the global news scenario.
People across the world were lapping up the digital revolution and smart phones had become a huge source of news for readers, Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, founder of the popular Odia daily ‘The Prameya’, said at a function held to mark the occasion. Prof. Nayak congratulated the team for its effort saying it had made the digital wing of Summa Real Media Private Limited (SRMPL) to witness a sharp rise within a short period of time. He advised the team members to focus on fact-based and propeople news.
Mr. Gopal Krushna Mohapatra, Group Editor of The Prameya and News7 and Mr. Subrat Das, Consulting Editor (Digital) , Prameya-News 7 Group, said more people were preferring to get their news from their mobile phones now as latest news was available at their finger tips these days because of the digital revolution. Mr. Mohapatra stressed on the need for news hunting, a trend which was going out of practice as it was easier to access news these days, while advising the prameyanews.com team to disseminate fresh and factual news.
Mr. Das said the team had done a tremendous job during the Covid-19 outbreak and the subsequent lock down. “We can’t say we have achieved a lot but we have surely made an attempt to reach the people,” he said while thanking the reporters at the ground level for the success of the portal.
Mr. Sunil Das, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SRMPL, said, “The readership of the English portal has jumped three times in April and May which broke not only all happenings relating to Covid-19 but also provided detailed information about the pandemic.”
