Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon organised a two-day Gender Sensitisation and POSH Awareness Programme on August 11 and 12, 2026, aimed at strengthening awareness on gender sensitivity and promoting a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon in presence of senior officials of NTPC

The programme comprised four focused sessions for different stakeholder groups. Two sessions on POSH awareness were conducted for employees, followed by a dedicated Capacity Building Programme for members of the Internal Committee (IC). A separate POSH Sensitisation Programme for Heads of Departments (HODs) was also organised, focusing on the role of leadership in creating and sustaining a respectful and gender-sensitive work environment.

The sessions were conducted by Ms. Poonam Adhikari, Certified POSH Trainer and HR & Training Consultant, who has extensive experience in POSH and Learning & Development. Through interactive discussions and case-based examples, she familiarised participants with the key provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act. The sessions covered prevention of sexual harassment at the workplace, appropriate workplace behaviour, complaint and redressal mechanisms, responsibilities of employees, functioning of the Internal Committee and the role of leadership in maintaining a professional and respectful workplace. The discussions also helped participants understand practical workplace situations and the importance of dignity, sensitivity and mutual respect in day-to-day professional interactions.

The Capacity Building Programme for IC members focused on strengthening their understanding of the statutory framework as well as their responsibilities in handling complaints fairly, sensitively, confidentially, and in a timely manner. Discussions on case situations enabled the members to better understand the processes involved in receiving complaints, conducting inquiries and ensuring adherence to the provisions of the POSH Act. During the dedicated session for HODs, emphasis was placed on the responsibility of leadership in shaping workplace culture. The session highlighted the importance of creating an environment where employees feel comfortable raising concerns, inappropriate behaviour is addressed appropriately and professional interactions are guided by dignity and respect.

The programme witnessed active participation and interaction, providing participants with an opportunity to discuss workplace situations, clarify their understanding of the POSH framework and appreciate the collective responsibility involved in maintaining a safe and inclusive workplace.

The initiative forms part of NTPC Bongaigaon’s continuing efforts towards gender sensitisation, prevention of workplace harassment and strengthening institutional mechanisms for safeguarding workplace dignity. Regular sensitisation and capacity-building programmes help reinforce responsible workplace conduct and ensure greater awareness of employees’ rights and responsibilities.
