Over 11,000 consumers achieve zero-unit electricity bills through rooftop solar; Nuapada emerges as top-performing district.

Burla, August 19, 2026: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has achieved its highest-ever monthly rooftop solar installation of 8,298 units in July 2026, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of clean energy across Western Odisha.

The July achievement comprises 3,395 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and 4,903 installations through the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. Together, the two schemes have enabled TPWODL to record its previous monthly high of 5,373 rooftop solar installations, achieved in May 2026.

The company also achieved a new record in terms of monthly performance under its Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, installing 4,903 rooftop solar installations in July. The accomplishment comes in after a previous record of 3,518 rooftop solar installations achieved in May 2026, proving the effectiveness of the ULA model in facilitating rooftop solar installation.

Speaking about the achievement, Shri Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL, said, “Achieving 8,298 rooftop solar installations in a single month is a significant milestone for TPWODL and reflects the growing confidence of consumers in rooftop solar. This achievement is the result of strong consumer participation and the sustained efforts of our field teams, Renewable Energy Officers and partners. More importantly, the growing number of consumers benefiting from zero electricity bills demonstrates the tangible value that rooftop solar can deliver to households. We will continue to simplify adoption and support more households across Western Odisha in becoming part of India’s clean energy transition.”

Nuapada emerged as the top-performing district in July, recording 1,509 rooftop solar installations, surpassing its previous monthly record of 1,489 installations achieved in May 2026. The district has 7,643 rooftop solar consumers as of July 2026, including 5,519 installations through the ULA model, making it the leading district in terms of ULA installations.

The strong performance in July has further strengthened TPWODL’s overall rooftop solar adoption. As of July 2026, TPWODL has enabled 45,103 rooftop solar consumers across its distribution network, including 17,063 installations through the ULA model. In terms of overall rooftop solar consumers, Baragarh has 7,823 consumers, followed by Nuapada with 7,643 and Sundargada with 6,651.

The growing adoption of rooftop solar is also translating into tangible financial benefits for consumers. So far, 8,257 consumers under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and 2,979 consumers through the ULA model have achieved zero electricity bills. Together, this means 11,236 consumers have benefited from zero electricity bills, highlighting the potential of rooftop solar to reduce household electricity expenses while contributing to a cleaner energy future.

The July milestone reinforces TPWODL’s efforts to support the Government of India’s vision of accelerating rooftop solar adoption and enabling households to become active participants in the country’s clean energy transition.

With growing consumer awareness, streamlined processes and strengthened field-level implementation, TPWODL continues to scale up rooftop solar adoption across Western Odisha through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the ULA model.
