Jharsuguda,29/08/2026: National Sports Day was celebrated at DAV Public School, Jharsuguda, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand and remembering his exceptional contribution to Indian sports. The programme was organised under the representation of the School Principal, Laxmi Kanta Debta. On the occasion, Alok Kumar, Branch Manager of the State Bank of India, Sarbahal Branch, Jharsuguda, attended as the Chief Guest.
He paid floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand by garlanding his statue. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest highlighted that Dhyan Chand’s extraordinary sporting prowess continues to be a great source of inspiration for every aspiring sports person.
He further expressed that National Sports Day is a celebration that honours the remarkable dedication and tireless efforts of countless sportspersons, coaches and everyone associated with the world of sports. Teacher Alekh Bihari Sahoo introduced the Chief Guest. Sports Teacher Bijay Dash and Teacher Poonam sensitised the students about the importance of sports, exercise and physical activity in daily life. The talented players of the school presented a physical demonstration highlighting the importance of regular exercise, sports and physical fitness.
Through their presentations, they conveyed the message of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. On the occasion, everyone pledged to follow the message of National Sports Day—“Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”—and resolved to make sports an integral part of their lifestyle.
