Baragada, August 31, 2026: On the occasion of National Sports Day, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) , a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, organised a football tournament at the Janged High School playground in Attabira, Baragada, bringing together young players from four villages—Lahanda, Lastala, Silet and Janged.

Organised as part of TPWODL’s CSR initiative, the tournament aimed to promote sports, fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship among rural youth while providing a platform to identify local football talent.
The tournament featured four teams representing Lahanda, Lastala, Silet and Janged, with players selected from their respective villages and nearby areas. A total of three matches were played, including the final between Lahanda and Janged.

In the final, Lahanda defeated Janged 1–0 to win the tournament. Tilu Khadia was adjudged the Player of the Final. The winning team received the Championship Cup and cash prize. A total of 10 goals were scored across the three matches.
The tournament was organised to provide rural youth with a structured platform for football and to help identify promising local players. The initiative also encouraged participation in sports and promoted values of teamwork and sportsmanship among the participating teams.

As part of its broader efforts to promote sports education, grassroots talent and physical fitness, TPWODL has implemented Sports Promotion Project across Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts. The programme covers six government schools with dedicated trainers and provides curriculum-integrated coaching and community-based training in Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Athletics and Football. Two Centres of Excellence have also been established to support advanced coaching and skill development. The initiative further includes health assessments, provision of sports equipment and community engagement activities to encourage wider participation in sports.
