Bhubaneswar, September 3: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya K. Rahatkar visited the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) here on Thursday and described the institution as “incredible”, urging its girl students to dream big, make the country proud and become examples of women’s empowerment.
In her address, Rahatkar said students should make the best use of the opportunities available to them and strive to bring glory to their institution, Odisha and the country.
KIIT, KISS and KIMS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta welcomed the NCW Chairperson and highlighted the National Commission for Women’s continued efforts towards the rights, safety and empowerment of women in the country. He expressed his gratitude to Rahatkar for visiting KISS and interacting with its students.
After touring the KIIT and KISS campuses, Rahatkar said the experience was “incredible”. She expressed deep appreciation for the disciplined functioning of KISS and the facilities provided for its students.
Rahatkar said that the world-class institution had been built through Dr Samanta’s immense affection and dedication towards tribal children. KISS, she said, was not merely an educational institution but a movement that had brought a new light into the lives of thousands of tribal children.
She particularly appreciated the facilities available at KISS for education, accommodation, sports and the overall development of students, describing them as highly commendable.
Addressing the girl students, the NCW Chairperson said that studying at an institution such as KISS was a great privilege for tribal children. She encouraged them to dream big, utilise the opportunities before them and work towards becoming a source of pride for India.
Dr. Samanta expressed his gratitude to Ms. Rahatkar for visiting KIIT and KISS. He said that the National Commission for Women has been working continuously for the rights, safety, and empowerment of women across the country.
The visit included a campus felicitation ceremony and an interaction with the students. Prof. Nayantara Padhi, Professor, School of Management Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), also addressed the gathering, while KISS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh delivered the presidential address.
The programme was attended, among others, by Dr P. K. Routray, Registrar and CEO, KISS.
