Bongaigaon, September 8, 2026: A Joint Mock Drill on Disaster Management was conducted at NTPC Bongaigaon in association with CISF, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Local Police and NTPC Hospital. The exercise assessed the preparedness and coordination of the participating agencies in responding to disaster situations.
The exercise was conducted under the guidance of Shri Anurag Gupta, General Manager (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, and the supervision of Shri L. N. Meitei, Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon. Personnel from NTPC Management, CISF Fire Wing and CISF Security Wing also actively participated in the drill.
The mock drill covered two disaster scenarios. The first simulated the collapse of the New Service Building following an earthquake, with seven casualties presumed to be trapped inside the structure. The participating agencies jointly carried out search, rescue and evacuation operations. All the trapped casualties were located, rescued and handed over to the NTPC medical team for first aid and further treatment.
The second exercise involved two drowning-related emergencies. One casualty was shown as trapped in a flood-like situation, while another was involved in a pond-drowning scenario. The rescue teams responded promptly and demonstrated appropriate search, water-rescue and casualty-evacuation techniques in both situations.
The entire exercise was carried out systematically, with effective communication and coordination among all the participating agencies. It provided an opportunity to assess their response capabilities and further strengthen the mechanisms for search and rescue, evacuation, first aid and casualty management.
A total of 117 personnel participated in the exercise, comprising 24 personnel from NDRF, nine from SDRF, six from NTPC Hospital, 28 from NTPC Management, 28 from the CISF Fire Wing and 22 from the CISF Security Wing, besides representatives of the Local Police.
The joint mock drill concluded successfully, demonstrating the ability of the participating agencies to work together effectively during emergencies and disaster situations.
