Berhampur, October: In view of the developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal and the possibility of cyclone-related impacts in southern Odisha, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has strengthened its preparedness measures to safeguard electrical infrastructure, protect consumers and facilitate the earliest possible restoration of power supply wherever disruptions occur. The company has activated its Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan, with manpower, emergency materials and response mechanisms organised across its operational areas.

As per the latest preparedness assessment, 6,474 personnel are listed in the division-wise deployment plan, comprising 5,691 AMC personnel and 783 TPSODL employees. In addition, around 800 skilled and unskilled project personnel are available, while 400 personnel can be mobilised on a standby, call-out basis. Further manpower from other TP Odisha distribution companies may be engaged if required.

To support rapid restoration, TPSODL has kept six mobile distribution substations and 358 vehicles available for emergency operations. The company has 32 power transformers and 862 distribution transformers in stock, along with 2,814 km of bare conductors, 516 km of LT aerial-bunched cables and 95 km of HT XLPE cables. Its inventory includes 10,660 poles, with a further 7,355 available through vendors, 8,009 V-cross arms and 22,505 insulators. Additionally, 696 manual and motorised tree pruners, 25 ASKA lights and 19 DG sets are available to support field operations. Sixteen transit stores, supported by five main stores, will facilitate the timely supply of essential materials.

The Central Emergency Control Centre (CECC) at Ambagada, Berhampur, will coordinate round-the-clock monitoring and emergency response through the Centralised Power System Control Centre. SCADA enables monitoring of 254 out of 261 primary substations. Area Power System Control Centres at Jeypore, Rayagada and Bhanjanagar will support localised network monitoring and field coordination. Dedicated control rooms at circle and division levels will support response during the cyclone period, while district-level coordinators will liaise with the administration and relevant emergency response agencies.

Customer communication has also been strengthened through voice-message alerts, SMS updates, multilingual social media communication and round-the-clock monitoring of consumer complaints. Digital complaint-booking facilities will remain available to help consumers report power interruptions and seek assistance.

Commenting on the preparedness measures, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, “Our priority is the safety of our consumers and employees and the protection of critical power infrastructure. We have strengthened our preparedness through the availability of manpower, essential materials, emergency equipment and round-the-clock monitoring arrangements. Our teams will coordinate with the concerned authorities and respond promptly to disruptions, with restoration undertaken as soon as conditions are safe. We urge everyone to follow official advisories and exercise caution around electrical installations during heavy rain and strong winds.”

Consumers can report electricity-related emergencies through TPSODL’s 24×7 toll-free helpline numbers 1912 and 1800-2026. The NPS missed-call service for complaint booking is available at 9777774699.

Safety Advisory
TPSODL urges consumers to stay away from fallen or dangling electrical wires and report them immediately. Consumers should not touch electrical poles, transformers or other installations in waterlogged areas, and must never handle electrical switches or appliances with wet hands. They should avoid taking shelter under trees or temporary structures during strong winds and thunderstorms, keep children away from exposed wires and flooded areas, and follow official weather advisories and instructions issued by local authorities.

Through its enhanced preparedness and coordinated response mechanisms, TPSODL remains committed to minimising cyclone-related risks and restoring power supply as quickly and safely as possible wherever disruptions occur.
