Indigenous knowledge system of Lanjia Saora Tribe: Terrace Cultivation and Water Management System

Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice) : The ST & SC Development Department has taken up virtual tour of Odisha State Tribal Museum on every Sunday. The visitors can visit the indigenous knowledge system of Lanjia Saora Tribe: Terrace Cultivation and Water Management System on 16th May by opening Facebook and Twitter Pages @stscdev, @scstrti, said Director, SCSTRTI Prof. Dr. A. B. Ota.

Living in a rain-fed agro-ecosystem the Lanjia Saora have a deep understanding of the ecology and ecological services that sustain their land-based livelihood pursuits. They believe that with careful management, water-a replenishable resource can be optimally utilized and conserved. This principle guides the community’s efforts towards the construction of terraces, designing the outlets, and irrigation management in the terrace fields employing traditional wisdom and indigenous technology.
