Bhubaneswar(Kalinga Voice) :All Urban Local Bodies of the State under the aegis Housing and Urban Development Department, Govt of Odsiha have observed “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Week” from 27th September to 3rd October 2021. In order to mark the occasion, various activities including Sensitisation of Households by Swachh Sathis to give Solid waste in a segregated manner,CT/PT Cleanliness drive and feedback by Citizens through Digital monitoring, Waste to Art Exhibitions by Mission Shakti Self Help Groups, Rallies, Ward Cleanliness Drives, Orientation of Swachh Karmis, Rallies, Competitions, Felicitations have been organised in all 114 ULBs of the State.
Sanitation Workers including Swachh Karmis, Swachh Sathis being nominated by Mission Shakti Self Help Groups have played a key Role towards the clarion call of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Sri Naveen Patnaik to make Odisha “Swachh Odisha Sustha Odisha” with greater community involvement. In order to dignify the position of the Sanitation Workers and recognise their contribution “Badakhana” and Felicitation Programmes have been organised by all 114 Urban Local Bodies. It is to mention here that ULBs do organise Badakhana which literarily is an informal get together of all the Sanitation workers and the officials of Urban Local Body at regular intervals as directed by the Housing & Urban Development Department.
Badakhana being a noble gesture by ULBs bridges the Gap, facilitates a strong bonding and strengthen the sanitation value chain. As a part of the Programme, officials and Dignitaries served food to the sanitation workers. Senior officials of the District/ Representatives of line Departments, Sanitation Champions/ Swachh Ambassadors had joined as guest of the Event.
A total of 25673 Sanitation Workers were felicitated and given away Certificates as a token of small gesture from all ULBs. Many Sanitation Workers have expressed their pleasure and being overwhelmed by this particular activity undertaken by the Urban Local Bodies of the State .
