Strengthening Solid Waste Management: Orientation cum Planning meeting of Nodal officers, mentors of SWM and Sanitation Experts.
Bhubaneswar( Kalinga Voice): Decentralized Solid Waste Management Model being implemented in Odisha is unique in the Country with active engagement of Community Partners such as Mission Shakti Self Help groups, Transgender and Rag pickers in the entire sanitation value chain told G.Mathi Vathanan , Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development . Speaking in an Orientation–cum-Planning meeting of all Nodal Officers & Mentors of Wealth Centers and Sanitation Experts Mr Mathi Vathanan stressed upon active engagement of Community Partners such as Mission Shakti Self Help groups, Transgender and Rag pickers in the entire sanitation value chain and ensuring100% waste collection in a segregated manner and 100% processing thereof to ensure better management of Solid Waste in Urban areas. He also emphasized on various aspects suchas data entry on Ama Sahara App, Optimum use of Ama Sahara App,Training need assessment role and responsibilities of nodal officer for succeful functioning of the scheme.
Second session was devoted to orient Sanitation Experts on the strategies to achieve 100 % collection of segregated waste from Households . Key responsibilities of SEs were also discussed at length during the Session.
It is expected that this orientation would help to enrich the participants with required skill and knowledge to operationalize Wealth centers in a better way in to achieve the goal of “Swachh Odisha Sustha Odisha”.
At the outset Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission, Urban and Director Municipal Administration Sangramjit Nayak gave his introductory address and shared the key objective of the Event. He shared about the Govt’s policy decision to have Decentralized Community based model of Solid Waste Management in Urban Odisha.Kalyan Kumar Rath, Additional Secretary cum Additional Mission Director, SBM, Urban,Odisha wrapped up the closing remarks and valuable suggestions. Concerned nodal officers , sanitation experts from 114 ULBs attended the orientation cum training held here in Convention Center , Lok Seve Bhawan today.
