Berhampur, Odisha: TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has been conferred the Rural Power Distribution Performance Beacon Award at the prestigious Times Business Awards, organised by The Times of India group in Bhubaneswar. The honour was presented by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and received by Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL. The award recognises TPSODL’s consistent and impactful efforts in strengthening rural power distribution across Southern Odisha.
TPSODL serves eight districts of Southern Odisha—Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal and Boudh—many of which are tribal-dominated and marked by difficult terrain, dense forests and widely scattered habitations. Despite these challenges, the company has ensured reliable, quality and uninterrupted power supply to rural and remote areas, contributing significantly to regional development.
In all districts TPSODL provides 24×7 electricity to critical infrastructure including schools, hospitals, Anganwadi centres, irrigation systems, industries and small enterprises. This dependable power supply has strengthened essential services, supported agriculture and enabled livelihood generation, improving the quality of life in remote communities.
Technology has been a key enabler of TPSODL’s rural transformation. The company has deployed SCADA-based real-time monitoring, GIS-enabled network planning and drone surveillance for fault detection in hard-to-reach locations. These initiatives have reduced outages, improved response time and enhanced service reliability, even during adverse weather conditions.
Operating in one of India’s most cyclone-prone regions, TPSODL has developed strong disaster preparedness and emergency response systems to ensure rapid restoration of power, with priority to critical installations and rural consumers. Continuous infrastructure strengthening through underground cabling, new primary substations, DTR augmentation and voltage improvement has further enhanced safety and network resilience.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, ‘This award reflects the dedication and commitment of our teams working tirelessly across some of the most challenging geographies. Reliable electricity is fundamental to education, healthcare and livelihoods, and this recognition reinforces our resolve to deliver safe, resilient and sustainable power to every corner of Southern Odisha.’
