New Delhi (Kalinga Voice) : Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla presided over a meeting with senior officials from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of AYUSH, NDMC, CPWD, DRDO, ICMR, AIIMS, Delhi Police and Government of NCT of Delhi at the Parliament Library Building today. The meeting was held to discuss arrangements related to the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament, to be held from 29 January 2021 to 15 February 2021 in the first phase and from 8 March 2021 to 8 April 2021 in the second phase. During the course of the meeting, Shri Birla was apprised that all COVID related Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) that were evolved during the last Session held amidst the pandemic in September 2020, shall continue to remain in place, with suitable modifications as per the requirements.

Shri Birla was informed that RT-PCR tests for all Members of Parliament shall be performed on 27 and 28 January 2021 in Parliament House Complex (PHC) and that apart from the PHC, tests shall also be conducted at other locations close to the residences of Members; including North Avenue, South Avenue, BD Marg, etc. Emergency wards for urgent COVID care with dedicated medical teams shall also be deployed at RML hospital to fulfill the health needs of Members. Shri Birla was also informed that adequate steps shall be undertaken to ensure that the time taken for the test results is minimized. Shri Birla instructed the agencies concerned to regularly undertake fumigation/sanitization of PHC during the ensuing session.

Shri Birla later interacted with the Media at a press briefing. During the interaction, Shri Birla informed that during the first phase of the session, Lok Sabha shall hold 12 sittings and during the second phase of the session, there will be 21 sittings of the House. Question Hour, Zero Hour will be held during this session. Shri Birla also informed that all applicable COVID guidelines shall continue to remain in force during the proceedings of the House and the Session will be held with by following all COVID-19 protocols. Members of Parliament will be requested to undergo RT-PCR test.

Responding to queries regarding COVID vaccination, Shri Birla said that the vaccination process shall proceed as per the government policy.
