“Free the arrested journalists and withdraw the cases against them”

New Delhi (Kalinga Voice) : Editors Guild of India has sent a letter to the Chief Minister of UP Yogi Adityanatha, on protection of press freedom and journalists’ rights. The letter highlighted some of the recent cases of state excesses against journalists, and urged the CM to take steps for protecting their rights. The letter signed by President Seema Mustafa, General Secretary Sanjay Kapoor and Treasurer Anant Nath, cited some of the severe violation and illegal arrests made in Uttar Pradesh . The letter says, In the recent past several incidents come to fore which raise deep concern on the space for free, fearless and independent journalism in UttarPradesh.. The guild raises concern on the intimidation and harassment by the authorities to the working journalists in UP. Many of them have been unjustifiably arrested on spurious charges such as Siddique Kappan, Supriya sharma, Asish Tomar, Saqueel Ahammad, Lakhan singh, Ravindra Saxena and many more . The Guild has urged the CM to free the journalist, withdraw the cases and ensure the safety of the working journalists.
