New Delhi ; The two-week online short term internship program organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India concluded. 69 students from different universities in the country attended it. Addressing the valedictory session, Shri Rajiv Jain, Member, NHRC highlighted how the internship had deepened interns’ understanding of human rights issues, especially from the victims’ viewpoint, fostering empathy for marginalized communities.

He urged them to use this empathy to advocate for justice and equality, emphasizing their crucial role as human rights advocates.

Shri Devendra Kumar Nim, Joint Secretary, NHRC, presented the internship report during the session, announcing the winners of the book review, group research project presentation, and declamation competition.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Lt. Col. Virender Singh, Director, NHRC.

Throughout the program, interns had the opportunity to attend sessions led by NHRC, India Members, Former Principal Advisors, Former Chief Information Commissioner, and other esteemed professionals, gaining invaluable insights into the workings of the Commission and the various challenges surrounding human rights violations.

Additionally, virtual visits to institutions such as Tihar Jail, Police Stations, Asha Kiran Shelter Home, and curated short films addressing various human rights issues provided interns with a comprehensive understanding of the realities on the ground.
