NTPC Bongaigaon Triumphs at Intra Regional Sports Meet (ER-II) 2024-25 – Football
Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon has secured the prestigious Intra Regional Sports Meet (IRSM) 2024-25 – Football trophy of the Eastern Region-II by defeating NTPC Talcher Kaniha with a score of 2-1 in a high-octane final match. The five-day sporting event witnessed participation from teams representing NTPC Darlipali, NTPC Talcher Thermal, and NTPC Talcher Kaniha, all hailing from Odisha. As the host unit, NTPC Bongaigaon displayed consistent performance, leading in all its league matches and ultimately sealing the championship with a convincing win in the finals.
The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Arindam Sinha, Regional Executive Director (ER-II), NTPC, as the Chief Guest. Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, was present on the occasion along with senior officials including Shri Debabrata Kar, GM (O&M), Shri A M Choudhury, AGM (C&I), Shri Onkar Nath, AGM (HR), Shri A.K. Singh, AGM (Operations), Shri Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Smt. Kasturi Maitra, President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, and Smt. Soumya Kar, Vice President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club. Members of employee unions, associations, and representatives from the Sports Council of NTPC Bongaigaon also attended the ceremony.
While presenting the trophy, Shri Arindam Sinha lauded the spirited performance of the players and highlighted how their energy resonated with NTPC’s core values of dedication and teamwork. Shri Sinha appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon for organizing the event with an ambience that matched international sporting standards. Shri Arnab Maitra extended his appreciation to all participating teams and commended the discipline and sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.
An exhibition match between RED XI and HOP XI was also held to promote physical wellness, with active participation from Shri Arindam Sinha and Shri Arnab Maitra, along with other Heads of Departments and Sports Council members, adding to the vibrancy of the event.
Individual brilliance was also recognized during the ceremony. Shri Jafungsar Daimary of NTPC Bongaigaon was awarded Best Defender, Shri Anil Kanta Pradhan of Talcher Kaniha bagged the Best Goalkeeper Award, while Shri Narkkhw Narzary of NTPC Bongaigaon was named Man of the Tournament. Shri Niraj Kumar Sangode of Talcher Kaniha won the Highest Goal Scorer award. NTPC Talcher Thermal received the Fair Play Award, and NTPC Darlipali was conferred the Spirit of the Game Award.
All participating teams were felicitated with medals and souvenirs. The matches were streamed live across all NTPC locations, with enthusiastic participation from employees and departmental heads. The Intra Regional Sports Meet, conducted annually across NTPC stations, forms a vital part of the company’s employee engagement initiatives under the Awahan Policy, depicting unity, wellness, and team spirit among its workforce.
