Various development projects were discussed and implemented under Rourkela Smart City Limited to accelerate the city’s progress and strengthen Rourkela’s role in Odisha’s development.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of various development projects in the city. Additionally, the progress of ongoing projects was assessed, with an emphasis on resolving bottlenecks and ensuring their timely completion.
Among these, the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICC) and the Tribal Museum, both under construction at Rourkela One, are targeted for completion by June. The progress of the Big Recreational Park project in Koel Nagar was also reviewed, and discussions were held regarding the development of the famous Vedavyas Peetha.

Furthermore, the meeting approved the construction of a new stormwater drainage system, renovation of the new bus stand, and the restoration of TISCO Pond. Notably, the stormwater drainage system aims to provide a long-term solution to waterlogging issues during the monsoon season in Dayanand Nagar, PK Das Colony, Burutola, and Jagannath Colony.
In light of Rourkela’s growing population, the new bus stand at Bishra Chowk will be renovated and upgraded to better serve passengers and facilitate additional amenities.
The renovation of TISCO Pond was also approved in the meeting. The pond will be beautified and transformed into a tourist attraction, featuring a forest trail, a foot-over bridge, and a food court.
A dedicated TISCO Market will be established at TISCO to accommodate traders from the weekly market held every Friday in Kalinga Bihar. Currently, these traders operate on the roads, leading to traffic congestion. To address this issue, the new market has been proposed as a permanent solution, providing space for approximately 400 traders.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ashutosh Kulkarni, Cheif Executive Officer of Rourkela Smart City, along with other departmental officials.
