Bhubaneswar : Aditya Birla Group’s Aditya Aluminium, in collaboration with the Vision India Foundation, through its flagship Project Vision Centre, has made deep impact.  Over 94,000 residents of Rengali block in Sambalpur district of Odisha have received vision care. Since its inception in 2020, the Centre has emerged as the first and only eye care facility serving 81 villages. In an area previously devoid of basic ophthalmic services, this initiative is a step forward.

Operating through a smart blend of local optometrists and remote video consultations with doctors from the Sambalpur-based Trilochan Netralaya with whom it is closely associated.  The Centre provides affordable and accessible primary eye care. In just one quarter, over 635 patients were treated and 70 cataract surgeries successfully performed under the ‘Blind Free Sambalpur’ campaign — restoring their eyesight and rewriting their future.  Bringing light and hope from darkness.

From elderly villagers to young students struggling with poor vision, the Centre extends its reach through weekly outreach camps, door-to-door screenings, and the tireless efforts of the ASHA and Anganwadi workers. Word-of-mouth from grateful patients continues to amplify its impact across the community.

The Centre digitizes patient records for effective follow-up care and has addressed conditions such as pterygium and diabetic retinopathy, while distributing much-needed spectacles to patients.

With plans to expand its reach to 108 villages through mobile eye units and dedicated village-level volunteers, Aditya Aluminium aims to eliminate avoidable blindness from the region entirely.

“This is not just CSR — this is community healing,” said Mr J P Nayak the Unit Head of Aditya Aluminium. “Restoring sight means restoring livelihoods, learning, and life itself,” he added.

“I had given up hope of ever seeing clearly again. Thanks to the Vision Centre, I can now do stitching and live independently. It’s like getting my life back,” said Panchanan Behera, a 73-year-old tailor from Rengali Block.

In a country where thousands still suffer vision loss, Rengali’s Vision Centre stands as a good example of how corporate responsibility can lead to lasting social transformation.

As a responsible corporate citizen and driven by the constant motivation to give back to society, in Odisha, the Aditya Birla Group reaches out to more than 5 lakhs people touching over 2 lakh lives in 128 villages. The Group’s CSR is conducted under the aegis of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development chaired by Mrs. Rajashree Birla.  The Group’s vision is to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which we operate. In doing so, build a better, sustainable way of life for the weaker sections of society. And raise the country’s human development index. The Group’s CSR vision is aligned with UNSDG goals to eliminate poverty and ensure freedom from hunger.
