Social activist and winner of the Alternative Nobel Peace Priz 2004 Swami Agnivesh died at 80 at Delhi’s Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences on Friday. He was suffering from liver cirrhosis and had been critically ill. Agnivesh had been a vocal critic of the RSS, the Sangh Parivar and its ideology, and has come under frequent attacks from Hindu activists—including a mob attack in Jharkhand in 2018. Several people, including lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan, posted tweets voicing their grief at his passing.
