AM/NS India celebrates 52nd National Safety Week

Bhubaneswar: The 52nd National Safety week has been observed across all locations of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India)in Odisha with active participation of senior leadership, employees and shop floor workers. The aim of observing the National Safety Week was to create awareness on health and safety among the employees and workers, directly or indirectly engaged in the plant operations, projects and mines. The goal for the year was captured with the theme “Our Aim-Zero Harm”.

The weeklong celebration at Paradeep Pellet Plant commenced with hoisting of the safety flag by Mr. Suresha G, Executive Director, Odisha Operations, AM/NS India.On the occasion,hesaid, “Occupational health and safety should always be the first priority for any industry. AM/NS India is committed to set exemplary levels of health and safety for its employees and workers at its plant. We aim to internalise the culture of health and safety and have accordingly introduced various behavioural based sessions, cross functional shop floor audit and various rewards and recognitions. Safety is an individual as well as a collective responsibility”.

For greater participation of employees and workers in the campaign, various activities were carried out by Health and Safety(H&S) department- across all locations. Ashort marathon named“DASH-ATHLON”was organised at Paradeep beach road which aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical wellbeing. More than 170 employees and business associates participated in the event to mark the beginning of National Safety Week 2023.

Safety banners were displayed across locations and safety badges were distributed among the employees. A safety campaign rally was also organised for the workers.Several awareness sessions and competitionswere conducted through the week like slogan competition, poster competition, departmental housekeeping and safety initiative competition, creative photography and video-making competition, quiz and rangoli competition, hazard hunt competition, awareness session on H&S and LSGR (Life Saving Golden Rule) policy, training on occupational health care, firefighting demonstration, emergency rescue procedure and case study analysis.Similar events were also conducted at the proposed Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) project site in Paradeep and township project site at Chakradharpur in Paradeep. At SagasahiProject site, safety training programs on SOPs, emergency preparedness, hazard identification & risk mitigation for contractor employees were conducted.Site Safety Inspection audits were also conducted to identify critical concerns at the mines location.Winners of various competitions were felicitated in the closing ceremony.

At the valedictory function at SagasahiProject site, Mr. Arun Kumar Rath, Head-Brownfield Projects, Odisha, AM/NS India said, “The safety week is a constant reminder of our responsibilities and commitments to the safety and wellbeing of our people which not only includes the employees and business partners but also the community. We can create the ideal safety ecosystem only when we extend this awareness to all the stakeholders”. Mr. Rath gave away the awards to the winning employees and workers of various competitions.
