- Outrage Over “Barbaric Act” and Demand for Justice under BNS
- Call for Fast-Tracked Investigation and Comprehensive Survivor Support
Bhubaneswar, 26/06/2025:A delegation of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders, led by Smt. BasantiHembram, today met with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Karanjia to demand urgent action in the horrific gangrape incident that occurred on 25.06.2025 under Karanjia Police Station, Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, the victim was deceitfully offered a lift by two men on a motorcycle, who instead took her to a secluded location where a third accomplice joined them. The woman was then allegedly subjected to a brutal sexual assault by all three accused at a Dhaba in the area.

The BJD delegation expressed deep shock and anguish over the incident, calling it a barbaric act that not only traumatizes the survivor but also deeply shakes public confidence in the law-and-order system. The leaders demanded the immediate arrest of the remaining accused and called for a swift and strict investigation under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“We demand immediate arrest of all absconding accused and strict action to ensure justice is not delayed or denied,” said Smt. BasantiHembram after the meeting. “The safety, dignity, and justice for women must be a top priority for law enforcement, especially in tribal-dominated areas like Mayurbhanj.”
The BJD delegation also strongly demanded that the case be fast-tracked, the chargesheet filed at the earliest, and the survivor be provided with comprehensive support, including proper medical care, psychological counselling, and adequate protection. The delegation, led by Smt. Basanti Hembram, included Tanuja Mohanta, Chakradhar Hembram, RaisenMurmu, Kashinath Hembram, Abhishek Patnaik, Annis Manna, Puppy Prusty, Subhadra Marandi, Namita Ghantiali.
