CRITICAL SURGERY PERFORMED ON INFANT AT SUM ULTIMATE MEDICARE

Bhubaneswar: Doctors at the SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) here recently performed a critical surgery to save the life of a new born baby with complex congenital anomaly.
The two-day-old premature male baby, weighing only two kg and born in another private hospital, was rushed to SUMUM in a low condition unable to feed while frothing in the mouth.
On thorough evaluation, it was found to be a case of Esophageal Atresia combined with Tracheo Esophageal Fistula. It was a complex case where the upper esophagus was found to be blind while the lower part of the esophagus was connected to the wind pipe, Dr. Antaryami Pradhan, Consultant of Pediatric Surgery in the hospital, who conducted the operation to correct the anomaly,said.


The team comprising Dr. Pradhan, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Dey, Senior Consultant and Dr. Bichitrananda Raut, Associate Consultant in the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology, deliberated on the case and decided to conduct the surgery immediately.
Backed by the anesthesia team headed by Dr. Dipankar Padhiary, Dr. Pradhan separated the abnormal connection from the wind pipe following which esophageal anastomosis was done.
The baby recovered well after the challenging surgery undertaken in the pandemic situation and was discharged without any complications.
