Dalmia Bharat Recognized with Prestigious ‘Pollution Control Appreciation Award – 2024’

Bhubaneswar: Dalmia Cement Bharat Ltd. (DCBL), a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Ltd., one of India’s leading cement manufacturing companies, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Pollution Control Appreciation Award – 2024’ by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB). The recognition was awarded for the company’s continued efforts in implementing effective pollution control measures and sound management practices at its Lanjiberna Limestone and Dolomite Mines in Odisha.

The award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Labour& Employees State Insurance Sri Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia in the presence of esteemed government officials, including Chief Secretary Sri Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Sri Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, and Dr. K Murugesan, IFS, Member Secretary, OSPCB. Mr. Om Prakash Rao Khelkar, AED and Head – Mines, received the award on behalf of DCBL.

Dalmia Bharat is committed to sustainable mining by actively adopting sustainability initiatives at its Lanjiberna mines. The use of fuel-efficient Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) reduces CO2 emissions, while non-conventional mining methods eliminate the need for drilling and blasting. A zero-waste mining policy is in place, supported by the integration of renewable energy like solar power and Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS), along with 78% green fuel usage. Water conservation is prioritized through the harvesting of 20 lakh cubic meters of rainwater. Additionally, the company rigorously monitors air quality through AAQMS and conducts mass plantation drives beyond mining areas to enhance biodiversity. Dalmia Bharat also organizes awareness campaigns during Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week and World Environment Day to further strengthen its commitment to sustainability.

The company has been at the forefront of pioneering ‘green initiatives’ in the cement sector globally. Dalmia Bharat is the first cement group committed to becoming carbon-negative by 2040.
