East Coast Railway Sets New Benchmark in Freight Transportation

Unloads 100 Million Tons of Freight in Record 160 Days

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a remarkable milestone in freight transportation by unloading over 100 million tons of goods in just 160 days during the current financial year. As of 7th September 2024, ECoR successfully unloaded 100.44 million tons, registering a 6.5% growth over the same period of last year. This impressive performance exceeds last year’s figure by 6.15 million tons.

Contribution by the divisions:

• 60.38 million tons were unloaded in Khurda Road Division,

• 22.68 million tons in Waltair Division, and

• 17.38 million tons in Sambalpur Division.

ECoR has been instrumental in supporting the logistical needs of key industries and ports within its jurisdiction. The railway serves major ports including Paradeep, Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Gangavaram, Gopalpur & Dhamra and caters to the transportation demands of critical industries such as steel, power, aluminum, fertilizers, cement and other sectors. The major commodities transported by ECoR are coal, iron ore, alumina, manganese, and bauxite.

This achievement of unloading 100 million tons in just 160 days showcases the railway’s improved efficiency and commitment to meeting industrial demands. By comparison, this milestone was reached in 171 days in the previous financial year (2023-24) and in 191 days during 2022-23.

The continuous improvements in freight handling reflect ECoR’s dedication to supporting India’s industrial growth, contributing to the nation’s economy by ensuring swift and seamless transportation of vital goods.
