Bhubaneswar, March 18: Prof. Rabindra Kumar Mohanty, former Professor of Sociology at the Mizoram Central University, Aizawl, has joined the SOA Deemed to be University as Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Senior Fellow.
Prof. Mohanty, who was the founder Head of the Post-Graduate Departent of Sociology at the Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, had done his MA in Sociology from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and pursued his M.Phil and Ph.D from the Institute of Advanced Studies, Meerut University, Uttar Pradesh. He also did his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Utkal University.
He subsequently did his Post Doctorate from the University of Nottingham, England, in 2002-03.
Prof. Mohanty’s areas of specialization included Criminology, Urban Studies, Gender and Juvenile Justice, Tribal Studies and Cultural Heritage and Disability Studies.
Prof. Mohanty also served the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) from November 2008 to February 2016. He has four books to his credit including one on the police in India and also on subjects of criminology and community policing. He had published several articles in journals of national and international repute. He prepared a Training Manual on RTI while serving at BPSPA.
He also served as Deputy Secretary in the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, from March 1997 to August 2000.
