EMINENT WORLD EXPERTS TAKE PART IN WIECON-2020

Bhubaneswar, (Kalinga Voice): Eminent experts from several countries participated in the two-day virtual 6th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference (WIECONECE) which concluded on Sunday.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is known as the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity while WIE has been working as a platform for women engineers worldwide for collaborative efforts.
The conference, jointly organised by IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE Kolkata Section and IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-section, aimed to bring together leading academic researchers and research scholars to confabulate on different aspects of electrical engineering and computer science, Prof. Renu Sharma, Head of the department of Electrical Engineering at SOA and General Chair, WIECON-2020, said.
The conference also provided a platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the field of electrical and computer engineering, she said adding it had to be organised virtually in view of the pandemic situation.
Prof. Ljiljana Trajkovic from Simon Fraser University, Canada who is a Life Fellow of IEEE and Prof. Akinori Nishihara, IEEE Region 10 Director, were the chief guests at the inauguration of the conference while Prof. S.N.Singh, Chair, IEEE India Council was the special guest. Prof. Noel N.Schulz, Washington State University, USA was the chief guest at the valedictory program while Prof. Bozenna Pasik-Duncan, University of Kansas, USA and Mr. Suresh Nair, Chair-Elect, IEEE India Council were the special guests. Prof. G.Bhuvaneswari, Professor, IIT Delhi and Prof. Sushmita Mitra, Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata were among the resource persons.
The subjects discussed included Antenna, Microwave and RF Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Security and IOT, Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics, Cloud, Big Data and ICT, Power Electronics, Robotics, Control and Automation and Wireless and Optical Communication. More than 400 papers were received for the conference of which 115 had been accepted, she said. IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), Women in Power Summit, was an event held during the conference in which girl students presented their projects.
Prof. Celia Shanaz, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Prof. Shaikh A. Fattah, Technical Program Chair, WIECON-2020, were the prime motivators behind the conference while Prof. A.K.Tripathy, Chair, IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-section, Prof. Subhranshu Samantaray, Secretary, IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-section and Prof. Tanmay R. Choudhury, Organising Chair, helped in the successful hosting of the event.
