Bhubaneswar, April 8 : The issue of bone tumour and the intervention associated with it were discussed at a mid-term Continuing Medical Education (CME) program organised by the Musculoskeletal Society India (MSS) at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here on Sunday.
The speakers who addressed the day-long seminar focused on the latest advancements in imaging technology and the method to approach a bone tumour as also relevance of radiographs in the ailment.
The theme of the CME, conducted in association with Odisha Radiological and Imaging Association (ORIA) and IMS and SUM Hospital, was MSK Tumours Imaging and Interventions.
Dr. Jayaraj Govindaraj, President of the Musculoskeletal Society and Co-Organising Chairman of the event, spoke about nuclear scan in bone tumour describing it as a game changer. He stressed on the need for upgrading knowledge saying it was important for students to know the technology.
Dr. Satya S.G. Mohapatra, Organising Chairman of the CME, different aspects of diagnosis of bone tumour and imaging modalities were discussed. He spoke about benign bone tumours.
Dr. Adya Kinkar Panda, Organising Secretary of the event and Dr. Dharmendra K. Singh, MSS Secretary and Co-Organising Secretary also addressed the seminar. A plethora of experts from different parts of the country took part in the event.
Dr. Panda said children were more affected by bone tumour though it was completely curable with timely diagnosis and proper treatment. The IMS and SUM Hospital had a pediatric oncology department to treat children.
