Bhubaneswar, 23 February 2026: East Coast Railway General Manager Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal felicitated four railway employees for their exceptional alertness, dedication and timely action in detecting defects and preventing potential safety hazards, thereby ensuring safe and uninterrupted train operations.
The employees honoured were:
- Shri Shashi Prakash, Station Master, Arangmahanadi, Sambalpur Division
- Shri Maheswar Nayak, Station Superintendent, Gurudijhatia, Khurda Road Division
- Shri Rajesh Kumar Sahu, Track Maintainer-III, Retang, Khurda Road Division
- Shri Bhagawan, Track Maintainer-II, Maligura, Waltair Division
Their vigilance, presence of mind and prompt response helped identify critical defects in rolling stock and track infrastructure, preventing possible mishaps and reinforcing Indian Railways’ commitment to safety.
On 25 January 2026, Shri Shashi Prakash detected smoke from a wagon wheel of a goods train and promptly stopped the train, leading to identification of a hot axle and detachment of the defective wagon.
On 19 January 2026, Shri Maheswar Nayak noticed a hot axle in a passing goods train and coordinated to stop the train safely, preventing possible danger.
The same night, Shri Rajesh Kumar Sahu detected a fracture in the SEJ tongue rail during patrol duty and ensured safe passage of trains at restricted speed after protecting the track.
On 18 January 2026, Shri Bhagawan identified a weld failure on track at Maligura Yard and immediately safeguarded the site for urgent rectification.corrective action to maintain safe train operations.
While felicitating the employees, the General Manager appreciated their dedication, alertness and commitment to duty. He emphasized that frontline staff such as Station Masters, Track Maintainers and Station Supervisors play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of railway operations.
