  • 21 Panchayats across 5 Districts Selected for the Initial Phase of the Initiative

Balasore, 18.03.2025 – In a pioneering effort to enhance the quality of electricity services in rural areas, TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is rolling out a transformative initiative aimed at making certain Gram Panchayats role models for reliable and efficient electricity distribution. This initiative is part of TPNODL’s broader strategy to reform electricity services and ensure that the rural population enjoys uninterrupted power supply along with access to essential consumer services.

In the first phase, 21 Gram Panchayats have been selected from across Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jajpur districts. These panchayats will be transformed into model areas where TPNODL will focus on improving power supply, fostering awareness about electricity safety and educating consumers about the importance of timely bill payments and energy conservation.

As part of this effort, TPNODL is raising awareness about various crucial aspects of electricity consumption, such as online and offline bill payment methods, the importance of paying bills on time, preventing power theft and ensuring electrical safety. The company is also addressing pending bill collections and aiming to expedite the resolution of any power supply disruptions.

A key element of this initiative is the active involvement of local public representatives in the process. Meetings are being organized primarily at the Panchayat offices, where the Sarpanch and Samiti members are offering their valuable input and guidance. These local leaders are playing an important role in engaging with the community and advising villagers on the steps needed to improve electricity services and ensure that the benefits of this initiative reach everyone.

A major focus of the initiative is to ensure that all electricity-related services are accessible at the fingertips of consumers. To this end, a 24-hour toll-free number—18003456718/1912—has been established to help consumers with their queries and resolve issues promptly. Additionally, 16 consumer care centers and 139 AnubhavKendras have been set up across the region to provide more localized support, ensuring that quality power supply and customer service are never more than a few steps away. The model Gram Panchayats are designed to act as touchpoints for all electricity-related services, ensuring that rural consumers are never disconnected from the support they deserve.

Through these comprehensive efforts, TPNODL is committed to setting a new standard for power distribution in rural areas and ensuring that the benefits of reliable electricity reach even the most remote communities in Northern Odisha.
