Bhubaneswar, 18 Sept : Medical education and training in Odisha has been strengthened with posting of new Asst Professors (specialists and superspecialists), and functionalisation of two new medical collegesviz., Govt Medical College & Hospital, Phulbani in the district of Kandhamal, and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital, Talcher in the district of Angul in the year 2025. With this the total number of Government Medical College in Odisha has increased from 12 to 14. During the year 2024, the Maharaja JajatiKeshari Medical College and hospital Jajpur, was made operational. Besides, 02 PG Institutes functioning in the State have also been strengthened with new appointments.
In the meantime, Governmenthas appointed 91 Asst Professors in 23 broad speciality disciplines and 07 Asst Professors in 06 superspecialistdisciplines at different Medical Colleges ofthe State. New appointments include 15 specialists and 4 super specialists at SCB MCH Cuttack, 19 specialists and 3 superspecialists at MKCG MCH Berhampur, 6 specialists at PRMMCH, Baripada, 01 specialist at SLNMCH Koraput, 6 specialists in FMMCH Balesore, 01 specialist at BBMCH Balangir, 02 specialists at SJMCH Puri, 06 specialists at Govt MCH Sundargarh, 05 specialists at DD MCH Keonjhar, 07 specialists at SRMMCH Bhawanipatna, 02 specialists at MJKMCH Jajpur, 08 specialists at PMP MCH Talcher, 05 specialists at Govt MCH Phulbani, and 08 specialists at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar. Besides, 38 posts of Professor and 27 posts of Associate Professor have also been filled up in medical colleges of the State through departmental promotion.
Apart from this, medical education and clinical services at Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack has been improved with posting of new 10 super specialist Assistant Professors in the departments ofSurgical Oncology, Gynaecological Oncology, Head & Neck Surgery, Medical Oncology andUro-Oncology.Besides, 01 post of Professorand 02 posts of Associate Professorsin the Institute have also been filled up through departmental promotion.
Steps are being taken for appointment of more specialists and super specialists in the Government Medical College and Hospitals of the State. Batchwise passing out of the medicos from these campuses will cater to the rising need of doctors and specialists for ensuring quality universal health care in the State.
