National Science Day Celebrated at KIIT with Telescope Donation and Inspirational Messages

Bhubaneswar: KIIT-DU marked National Science Day on Friday with the donation of a telescope by renowned astrophysicist Dr. Ashwin Sekhar to KISS students. Addressing the celebration, Dr. Sekhar lauded the efforts of KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta in empowering rural and tribal communities, calling his initiative as “astronomical.” He emphasized that KISS was the most deserving institution to receive the telescope on this significant day.

Former Norwegian Minister and UN Member Erik Solheim also graced the occasion, praising KIIT and KISS as unparalleled institutions in the world. “There is nothing like KIIT and KISS anywhere else,” he remarked, acknowledging their role in providing free education. Encouraging students to pursue their dreams, he cited the journey of India’s Prime Minister and President, who rose to the highest offices in the country despite humble beginnings.

KIIT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh reflected on India’s rich history of scientific advancements and emphasised the transition from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to STEAM, incorporating Arts into the curriculum. He stressed the importance of making science engaging and enjoyable for young minds. KIIT Registrar Prof. J.R. Mohanty introduced the distinguished speakers to the large gathering of students, who actively participated in the celebrations.
