Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon, the flagship power station of NTPC in the North-East with an installed capacity of 750 MW (3×250 MW), joined the nation in celebrating the 77th Republic Day with pride and enthusiasm at its plant premises. The celebrations commence with the unfurling of the National Flag by Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, followed by the inspection of a ceremonial parade comprising contingents from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), DGR Security Services, CISF Fire Wing, and students of Notre Dame Academy.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Maitra reflected on the significance of Republic Day as a reaffirmation of faith in the Constitution and the enduring values of unity in diversity. He highlighted NTPC Bongaigaon’s strong operational performance and its contribution to the development of the North-Eastern region. Shri Maitra added that as on 23rd January 2026, NTPC Bongaigaon had generated 3,630.6 million units (MU) of energy with a Declared Capacity of 97.01 per cent—the highest among NTPC stations. Shri Arnab Maitra complimented that with availability maintained at 97 per cent, key operational parameters such as Auxiliary Power Consumption and Specific Oil Consumption were sustained within prescribed targets, placing the station among the top ten NTPC stations in the Performance and Safety Evaluation Matrix.

Delivering consistent operational excellence, Unit-2 achieved 319 days of uninterrupted generation before being taken out of service in July 2025, while Unit-1 has now completed 381 days of continuous operation. Despite high ramping requirements and a constrained operating schedule, exemplary maintenance practices and technical discipline resulted in zero Boiler Tube Leakage (BTL)–related outages in both units during the year. Unit-2 has remained BTL-free for the past three years, while Unit-1 has maintained BTL-free operation for two consecutive years, Shri Maitra added

On the sustainability front, Shri Arnab Maitra lauded that NTPC Bongaigaon achieved its highest-ever total ash utilisation of 123 per cent (as on 23rd January 2026) since inception. December 2025 recorded a historic monthly ash utilisation of 313.45 per cent (235,683 MT), while the highest single-day ash utilisation of 11,193 MT (402.66 per cent) was achieved on 19th January 2026, surpassing the previous record set in December 2025. Overall ash utilisation during the year stood at 113.5 per cent, the highest since inception.

Fuel security was ensured with the receipt of 76 coal rakes and total coal receipts of 2,84,861 MT in December 2025. The station is currently operating at a Specific Oil Consumption of 0.31 ml/kWh and Specific Water Consumption of 2.44 l/kWh (as on 23rd January 2026), ranking among the top ten NTPC stations in these parameters.

During the ceremony, Shri Maitra encouraged employees, departments, and partners to continue working collectively towards new milestones, while reiterating the station’s continued focus on safety, environmental stewardship, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The occasion featured the symbolic release of tricolour balloons and the presentation of the Head of Project Merit Awards to 35 employees for their outstanding contributions. Awards were also presented to Heads of Departments who served as Business Excellence (BE) Assessors at other NTPC stations, along with the winners of the NTPC Medha Pratiyogita. Additionally, awards were given to the Best CISF Contingent, Best Jawan from DGR Security Services, and teams from Notre Dame Academy and ICH.

A special appreciation souvenir was presented to the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, led by Smt. Kasturi Maitra, as well as to school teams and CISF personnel, in recognition of their commendable efforts during the celebrations.

The event was further enriched by vibrant tableaux presented by Notre Dame Academy’s Pipe Band, Sports Council (FM Department), Safety Department, Ash Utilisation Department, and CISF Fire Wing, beautifully depicting the theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram.”

Simultaneously, Republic Day celebrations were held at other locations across the township. Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), unfurled the National Flag at the New Service Building and spoke on the relevance of the historic day. At Ankur Tiny Tots, the flag was unfurled by Smt.
