When it comes to their BJP Party increasing electricity tariff in other States, the Odisha BJP justifies it. But when it comes to Odisha, the BJP demonstrates on the streets. Sri Mohanty said that many of the BJP ruled states have increased their electricity tariff. The BJP-ruled state of Bihar increased its electricity tariff by up to 35 paise per unit on 26th March 2021. BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh increased its electricity tariff last year by 64 paise per unit. Another BJP-ruled State of Madhya Pradesh increased its electricity tariff substantially last year. Too BJP-ruled State of Karnataka from 1st November 2020 increased its electricity tariff by about 40 paise per Unit, said Sri Mohanty.
Sri Mohanty further alleged that The BJP is further fully aware that Odisha Government does not increase the electricity tariff but the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission, which is an independent body. But despite knowing this, the BJP trying to play cheap politics on such a sensitive issue is extremely unfortunate.
Sri Mohanty says “The BJD is committed to the overall development of Odisha and we are sensitive to the issues of the people of Odisha. Before advising the BJD Government, the Odisha BJP should first advise their own Party to lower electricity tariffs which they have been increasing rapidly in the BJP-ruled states.”
